Translation faux pas at the Winter Olympics
Chefs tasked with feeding the Norwegian Olympians in South Korea thought they were ordering 1,500 eggs, but the figure was lost in translation when the team ended up with a delivery of 15,000 instead.
The order was placed through Google Translate, but it seems as if an error was made somewhere during that process.
“When the truck showed up, they started to carry in the eggs,” said the Norwegian Olympic Committee spokesperson Halvor Lea. “After a while, (the chefs) thought it lasted so long, it never stopped.” Amid the confusion, the chefs asked the driver to tell them how many eggs the order included. He said 15,000.
